Very nice restaurant not very busy on Saturday night. Clean and the waitress was very professional.
The food was better than average but not exceptional, they put a lot of sauces on the sushi.
My personal opinion it would best better without all of the sauces. We will try it again and ask for that to be put on the side. However it was fresh and tasted very good. -

We decided to come here based on a friend's recommendation. I made a visit to the website and noticed that the chef, originally from the area, was previously in Denver prior to migrating back to Saint Louis. What many people may not realize is that Denver has a relatively large Japanese population there. I recall some of the best salmon collar from a place in Denver about eight years ago. When I saw that, I knew that this place was definitely going to be worth the drive.
As soon as we arrived to the place, we were warmly greeted by the sushi chef and both hostesses. We were seated promptly and our sushi order (salmon egg and salmon nigri; eel, tempura shrimp, spicy tuna) was taken first. We also opted for some genmai-matcha green tea. We also ordered takoyaki, chicken katsu, and japchae.
Let me say that the takoyaki is not half bad! I would love to have seen it made like when I first experienced it in Japan. Aside from that, they were hot and the flavor was on par. The four pieces included in the order could use a bit more seafood on the inside and more fish flakes on the top.
Sushi was stellar! The fish was fresh; different types of rice were used depending on the type of roll that was ordered. One type of roll, I believe it was the shrimp tempura roll, had a brown-speckled rice. The other rolls had the usual medium-grain sushi rice. The rice was warm too, quite indicative of the fact that the rice is fresh and the fish was fresh. The tempura was warm, but even the cold nigri salmon was warm as well. Made to order! I believe it took the better part of 25 minutes before our sushi came out. It was definitely worth the wait.
The last items to come out were the chicken katsu and japchae. The best aspect that I like about 153 Sushi are the portion sizes. The fact that rice isn't included with every dish helps to not be wasteful or overloaded on rice. Honestly, between the takoyaki and four different sushi rolls, with a couple nigri sushi would have been enough. The japchae was perfect as well. I really didn't have any complaints from them.
My only wish was that I tried their drinks. They do have a full bar, but their specialty drinks looked quite delicious. In short, for anyone wanting to experience someone who is very good at their craft, I'd highly recommend you take that drive out and enjoy this establishment. They're in a very quiet location, especially during the evening. Very cozy. -

Reasonable price. Food is surprisingly good. We ordered some classic rolls and rice bowl. I always liked Don but somehow
Not many sushi places carry it. -

This is an incredible sushi place, fresh and unique. My favorite is the hamachi and spicy trio.

Family favorite. We are often there with parties of 5. Outstanding menu choices and good pairings of alcoholic beverages (not just cold sake). Favorite dishes on the menu include octopus tempura, Missouri roll, Dakota roll, Louisiana roll, and the sashimi is stellar and has no local competition period.
